What's Next ???

The artists who will be showing in the restaurant beginning April 8 are:

Mike McIntyre
Jordan Borstelman & Danny Lore

Mike's statement:

Mike McIntyre has always been an artist. Drawing and design came naturally to him as a child. He earned his degree in Architecture at UF and there honed his design sensibilities, but knew even then that his real calling was art.

Mike has made his living and reputation as a stained glass artist in Gainesville for well over 30 years. His artistic influences come from every part of his life. Most recently he has been focusing on his life-long love of music in general and guitar in particular. His architectural training (i.e. model building 101) is most evident in his new mixed media guitar sculptures.

Whatever subject or medium he focuses on at any given time, the constants in his work are a strong sense of design, attention to detail, and superb craftsmanship.

Jordan's statement:

Jordan Borstelmann has been blacksmithing for five years, beginning his training with a course at Penland School of Crafts.  He also spent a year apprenticing with noted blacksmith Yaw Owusu Shengofemi, creator of the Dreamer's Garden Gate.  Recently, Jordan has started making knives in addition to some of his more traditional smith work.  Each knife is hand-forged, meaning the metal is heated on a coal forge and beaten into shape using a hammer and anvil, producing a unique work of functional art.  These blades are meant to be used, and feature 1095 high-carbon steel.  The heat treating process, done at Jordan's own Crooked Path Forge, creates a tough and rugged blade capable of chopping through a 2x4 while still retaining an edge sharp enough to shave with.  Jordan prefers to use natural wood materials for his handles, including but not limited to Florida Cypress, Australian Pine driftwood, and Florida Long Leaf Pine "Fatwood".

Danny's statement will be in the next post.
